Sonic the Hedgehog 5 Game Review
The snarky speedster despises injustice. He is a fierce warrior who has never lost a battle and can crush foes with ease.
Despite a lacklustre soundtrack and frustratingly long boss fights, Sonic Superstars showcases the franchise’s best 2D action to date. The game’s physics engine also enables some impressive handling, giving players a true sense of speed.
1. Sonic the Hedgehog
A sleek and streamlined blue hedgehog with a long, pointed tail, Sonic is the star of the iconic Sega franchise. He is confident and quick-witted, but also a rebellious soul who values his freedom and will often take on challenges that exceed his capabilities. He has a strong sense of justice, and will go to great lengths to protect those around him and stop his arch-nemesis Dr. Eggman from achieving world domination with his mechanical contraptions.
The game features a variety of zones, each with its own visual style and enemies, which the player must navigate through to advance. The player is given three lives, which can be lost by colliding with hazardous enemies or objects without rings, falling off-screen, or exceeding an act’s ten-minute time limit.
The game is a true classic of platform gaming, and remains highly regarded by fans and critics alike. It was a massive hit when it first launched in 1991, far exceeding Sega’s expectations and launching the company into a successful competitor against Nintendo. It was the first of its kind to feature an anthropomorphic character as the central hero, and set a new standard for the genre.
2. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
After the backlash against the original film’s humanized Sonic look, SEGA and Paramount went back to the drawing board. The result is this sequel, featuring a more animalistic version of the Blue Blur.
After a night of partying with Ozzy and Maddie, Sonic wakes up in a boat on a lake and realizes he’s missing. He hurries to meet up with Tom, but falls into the water as the boat tilts and gravity does its thing.
Back at Green Hills, Sonic and Knuckles are arguing over the Master Emerald as it’s rumored that only one can possess it. The echidna warrior softens up when Sonic sympathizes with his loss, but is interrupted when Miles “Tails” Prower arrives through a Ring portal.
The young fox idolizes Sonic, and he has a strong desire to help his ally. He reveals that his father died trying to protect the Master Emerald, which leads Knuckles to believe Sonic was responsible. They then overhear a G.U.N conversation about the location of the Master Emerald. This information piques the interest of Robotnik, who sends his Badniks to find it.
3. Sonic the Hedgehog 3
After two successful films, the Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise is finally getting a sequel. The third movie will be starring none other than John Wick actor Keanu Reeves as the anthropomorphic blue hedgehog with superpowers.
In the video games, Sonic is a speedy hero who defends his world from villains like Dr. Eggman and his evil cronies. He can curl into a ball to protect himself from attacks, and he is known for his speed, strength, and agility. He can also use the mystical Chaos Emeralds to become invulnerable.
The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 game features a similar gameplay to previous titles in the series, with Sonic jumping, dashing, and spinning across side-scrolling levels. Players can collect rings and defeat enemies to progress through the story. The game also introduces Knuckles, a guardian of the floating island, and a new antagonist called Dark Gaia.
The upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film will feature an all-star cast including Ben Schwartz as the titular character, Colleen O’Shaughnessy and Idris Elba as his friends Tails and Knuckles, and Jim Carrey returning as Dr. Robotnik. The film will also see the return of Shadow, the evil twin of the eponymous hero.
4. Sonic the Hedgehog 4
The fourth main entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Sonic 4 uses a graphics engine and gameplay similar to previous 2D games. It features a level design and structure that has received much criticism, including an overreliance on loops, visual flourishes and the lack of any new features or additions.
The game takes place in Green Hills, where Sonic is living on the run from Dr. Eggman. Sonic’s nemesis is an imprisoned genius who wants to reclaim the mystical Chaos Emeralds and take over the world. Sonic and his two-tailed fox sidekick Miles “Tails” Prower are on the verge of discovering what is behind these mystical gems.
In the game, Sonic can jump, spin dash and use the Homing Attack to destroy enemies. He also has the ability to curl into a ball, which can be used against larger enemies. Sonic’s speed allows him to traverse platforms and walls, jump over water, scale walls and even outrun lasers. He can also fly through rings, causing them to disappear and granting him extra jump height.
5. Sonic the Hedgehog 5
Sonic the Hedgehog 5 features classic gameplay where you collect a series of colored spheres before reaching the end of an act. The game also introduces Tails, a 2-tailed fox who can fly and attack enemies with Tail Attack.
Sonic’s speed is his most recognizable trait, as he can accelerate to super-fast speeds on the ground or in midair. He can jump incredibly high and climb walls with ease, as well as run backwards just as fast as forwards.
His best friend is Knuckles the Echidna and he’s got a bit of an antagonistic relationship with Antoine the Acrobat. He’s also got a close bond with Cream the Rabbit, who treats him like a big brother and respects him immensely.
This movie is funny, but it doesn’t really offer any new or interesting ideas in its storytelling. It’s a basic buddy comedy with some witty visual gags and a lot of silly riffing from Schwartz. But, if you’re a fan of the franchise and just want to see your favorite characters back in action again, this one is worth watching.
